Dassault Aviation enters partnership with Reliance Industries
Reliance Industries and France’s Dassault Aviation have signed a pact for partnering in the defence and homeland security sector
in Asia’s third-largest economy. The accord comes less than two weeks after Dassault’s Rafale warplanes emerged as the preferred
bidder in a $15 billion contest to supply India with 126 fighter jets. India is the world’s largest arms importer with plans to spend $100
billion on weapons over the next decade.
Police and Maoists exchange fire in Maharashtra
Two separate incidents of exchange of fire between the cadres of the Communist Party of India-Maoist and Police took place in
Gadchiroli District on February 12. However, no one was injured. According to Police, Maoists opened fire on a polling party near
Repanpalli village when it was returning to its base camp. However, security personnel accompanying the polling staff retaliated
following which the Maoists fled away, they said, adding the polling staff reached its base-camp safely.
Defence PSUs can have joint ventures with corporates
The government made a significant step for bolstering domestic defence industrial base by clearing of guidelines for its defence PSUs
to establish joint ventures with private firms. This could increase opportunities for obtaining advanced technologies from foreign
sources.
Chidambaram emphasises on intelligence to combat Maoists
The CRPF, a key force in anti-Naxal operations, will have to acquire an intelligence-based strategy to combat Maoists who have
organised themselves as a “regular fighting army”, Home Minister P Chidambaram said.
